It’s no secret that Maddie & Tae are one of country music’s most buzzed about new acts. Since the release of last year’s “Girl in a Country Song,” the pair have won over the attention of country critics and fans alike. While the pair released an EP last year, they’re now preparing to release their debut full-length album, Start Here on June 2.
Rather than rush to release the Dot Records debut album, the duo behind the stirring “Fly” have taken their time and worked with super-producer Dan Huff.
“We couldn’t have guessed it would be like this,” Tae Dye says of the response to the attention. “Maddie and I were two girls with a big dream and a lot of determination. We wrote a song out of something a lot of people were talking about, and suddenly, people were talking about us. That’s when things got crazy…”
“But we’re really lucky,” Maddie Marlow picks up. “Everyone at our label understood and supported the process… Our first album means so much to us, and we wanted to get it right, to get it just the way we heard all these songs. Dann Huff is amazing and so patient. We’re almost done, and we’re both so ready.”
They pair worked on the album with a host of Nashville’s hottest songwriters and are ready to being, choosing the song “Start Here” to be their next single and the album’s title track. “We had so many names,” Maddie admits. “Pieces of lyrics, song titles, our names. But when it really came down to it, what this record is to us is the beginning of everything! You only get one first album…”
“Start Here,” Tae continues. “It says it all. Like ‘Fly,’ it is one of those sentiments that holds all the promise, all the chances and maybe a little bit of being scared. But you have to start somewhere, and this is pretty great place to begin.”
Maddie and Tae will be on the road this summer alongside Dierks Bentley on his Sounds of Summer Tour. Additionally, they will appear at some of the country’s biggest festivals to support their June 2 album release.
