While Maddie and Tae may have taken the country world by storm with their sardonic first single, “Girl in a Country Song,” the duo are ready to show their softer side on the second single from their EP, “Fly.” While some artists struggle with a “sophomore slump” on their second release, we’d bet on Maddie and Tae rising above it with the release of “Fly.” In fact, for those who criticized them for “Girl,” this track might just change your mind.
Here, the pair harmonize throughout the song, neither ever overwhelming the other, each of their voices a perfect complement to the other’s. There’s no need for showy vocal runs or snark on this gorgeously simplistic track, written by Maddie and Tae (Maddie Marlow and Taylor Dye), along with Tiffany Vartanyan.
The song is a motivational cut, a simplistic ode to finding a high in every low. While things may seem hopeless, it’s there that one can find their wings and truly rise above. This is abundantly clear on the song’s stunning chorus:
So keep on climbing, though the ground might shake / Just keep on reaching though the limb might break / We’ve come this far, don’t you be scared now / Cause you can learn to fly on the way down.”
When #CMChat chose our 15 Country Music Artists to Watch in 2015, Maddie and Tae were one of the easiest choices. They took 2014 by storm, earned their first #1 at radio, and we’re positive that they’re only going to continue their meteoric rise through 2015. With the release of “Fly,” we’re positive that these girls are only going to continue to soar.
