Maggie Rose Covers “Say Something” on The Bobby Bones Show

Anyone working in the music industry knows not a day passes without a friend asking you to check out a band they discovered or without a stranger sending a link to review new music. Everyone has a dream. When my very dear friends suggested I check out this duo made up of their young nephew and his friend, who happened to be playing a small Orlando venue that week, I politely brushed it off. Owing my friends the courtesy, I had certainly planned to listen eventually but ignorantly chalked them away to another moderately talented garage band.

Fast forward one week, yes I said only 1 week, and A Great Big World had gone from relative unknowns to perhaps the most talked about duo in all the music world. Their brutally honest song evoked emotion worldwide. “Say Something” caught the attention of Christine Aguilera who sent a tweet that forever changed the lives of Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino.

That simple moment triggered a whirlwind that hasn’t slowed yet. In just two weeks they traded the small Florida venue for the stage of The Voice singing in front of 14 million people. Christina approached the boys about re-recording the single with them. Still humbled and an in awe, they thought she was joking, but the new release featuring the songstress instantly shot to #1 on iTunes and was just certified double platinum.

Say Something” is possibly one of the most passionate gut wrenching songs ever written. Simplistically deep lyrics are complimented by beautiful harmonies, strings, and piano played so dramatically that it forces you to be still, intently listen and feel.

Last week, Bobby Bones of The Bobby Bones Show challenged country singer, Maggie Rose, to sing a cover of  “Say Something” on his show. Last Friday she she performed her version beautifully and the song has over 40000 views to date. Watch here:
