Maggie Rose released her debut CD “Cut To Impress” almost a year ago. Although the critic’s reception was more than favorable, the singer simply hasn’t been able to boost up the charts. Her debut “I Ain’t Your Momma” barely crossed the Top 40 line and “Better” fell just below.
Just a few weeks ago, Maggie Rose took to the Bobby Bones show where she performed “Say Something”. The song has become a hit among listeners and is now available on iTunes with profits going to charity.
Following the ‘Say Something’ success, Maggie has released the video to her latest single “Looking Back Now”. The song is the ultimate revenge song (whiskey and guns included). As Matt Bjorke at Roughstock said, she “features all of the spirit of Underwood and Lambert’s hit abuse/revenge anthems but digs deeper within its story song structure.” The video for the song is so simple that it reminds me of Sugarland’s “Stay” music video. It allows the lyrics to reign king, which is a great move on Maggie’s part. The two alter egos focused on throughout the video make interpretation of the lyrics yet again intensified. The image of putting Maggie in a body bag at the end leaves me with chills every time. As if the song weren’t strong enough by itself, this video is sure to help it ‘shoot’ up the charts.
“You don’t look a woman in the eye and smile/When she knows what you’ve done/And she’s holding whiskey and a gun”
