Maren Morris + Alicia Keys = CMT Crossroads

Maren Morris has teamed up with pop legend Alicia Keys in an upcoming episode of CMT’s Crossroads. The series, which pairs country artists with musicians from other genres.

The popular show exposes the far-reaching roots of country music by pairing a wide array of popular artists with country stars. The result is usually a genre-defying sound that showcases both artists’ styles and their common love of music. Crossroads most recent collaborations include Cheap Trick performing with Jennifer Nettles, Jason Derulo and Luke Bryan, Rob Thomas and Charles Kelley, and Nick Jonas with Thomas Rhett.

Alicia Keys, who is a 15–time Grammy winner, is set to release her sixth album later this year. Keys is no stranger to the small screen, as she will be a judge on the upcoming season of The Voice alongside Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton.

This Crossroads episode will cap off a hugely successful year for Maren Morris. The 26-year-old Texas native has gained praise from fans and critics alike after the release of her major label debut album Hero, a project that contained her breakout hit “My Church”. Hero debuted at the top of the Billboard country albums chart, and number 5 across all genres. It’s a fitting reward for Morris’ steady rise to prominence.

Prior to Hero, Morris honed her craft over a succession of three albums, Walk On, All That It Takes, and Live Wire, all released on the independent label Mozzi Blozzi. After the release of Live Wire in 2011, Morris spent four years making Hero, which really showcases her diverse influences of pop and soul, yet is still recognizably country.

Maren Morris is currently touring as the support for Keith Urban’s Ripcord World Tour, bringing her music to a much larger audience. All of this exposure has led to serious speculation that the country star will bag herself a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. Morris was already named one of CMT’s “Next Women of Country” as well as their “Listen Up Artist of 2016”. SiriusXM named her an “Artist to Watch in 2016” and Rolling Stone included her in their “10 New Country Artists You Need to Know” list.

Maren Morris and Alicia Keys’ Crossroads episode will air on December 2nd.
