[email protected] vs. @GlenTempleton #Top40GoesCountry – #CMchat #DigitalDuel

Every week in Country Music Chat’s/#CMchat’s #DigitalDuel we will be featuring two songs for you to vote on. The songs might be related, might be different covers, or have no relation at all. Once they’re posted, it’s up to you – the fans – to spread the word and hash it out to win the #DigitalDuel. Simple enough?

Here’s your new challenge:

Meghan Linsey “Counting Stars” vs. Glen Templeton “Let Her Go” – ‘Top 40 Goes Country’ Battle

In the last few years, pop artists (like Darius Rucker, Sheryl Crow, and Aaron Lewis) have turned into country stars. At the same time, some country stars are well recognized in the pop world. One thing that’s for certain is that music is music. It’s hard to go to a country concert without hearing a cover of a pop song thrown in.

Two up-and-comers have actually recorded pop hits and are hoping to reach success with them on their own – Meghan Linsey and Glen Templeton. Meghan released “Counting Stars” a few months back and had mild success with the song. Her version may not have sold 5,000,000 copies like OneRepublic‘s version did, but it’s still a beautiful cover. To me the song sounds as if it could have been a Meghan Linsey song prior to OneRepublic’s massive success with the tune.

Passenger released “Let Her Go” in 2012 and had massive success with the song in Europe. It wasn’t long before the song became a hit on US radio as well. Last month, Glen Templeton decided to give the song a country attempt and released the version of the song below. I’m not sure Glen’s song will be a worldwide hit, but it’s definitely got potential on country stations (especially SiriusXM’s the Highway). Listen and vote below.

Both songs blur the lines between country and Top 40, but both are able to take a top 40 hit and transform them into our own genre. Meghan and Glen are both searching for success with the tunes. Who will be crowned the winner in this head-to-head battle? Vote for your pick in this week’s #DigitalDuel.
