While some artists win reality shows and immediately catapult themselves to flash-in-the-pan stardom, others achieve success the old-fashioned way, their reality TV stints merely a footnote on their already-impressive roster of accolades. Meet Michael Ray, a country singer-songwriter from Eustis, Florida on the verge of greatness.
It’s worth mentioning that Ray is already signed to Warner Music and has also appeared on, and won, a reality singing show, but instead of resting on his laurels, he’s proof of hard work paying off. He’s currently building a fan base the old-fashioned way, one live show and one amazing song at a time.
While Ray was born into a musical family and had a guitar in his hand since the day he could walk. it wasn’t until a bar owner discovered him and booked him for a gig only days later that he truly began his career. That fateful luck continued when Ray played a show that just happened to be attended by a radio DJ who immediately fell in love with, and began giving radio play, to his track “23rd Psalm.”
From there, he built a fan base by playing sold out shows around Florida, citing Eric Church and Gary Alan as influences. He also appeared on the CW Network’s reality singing show, The Next. working closely with John Rich as his mentor. Although Michael went on to win the show and was taken under Rich’s wing, he continues to win fans over in his own unique way.
As Michael Ray continues on his trajectory toward stardom, he recently released his Tour Bootleg, a five song compilation of songs to tide fans over until a full album is released. The EP features standouts “Kiss You in the Morning” and his version of “Run Away With You,” a track which Big & Rich cut on their new album, Gravity. The songs are currently endearing him to new fans across the country, while also satiating longtime fans who have been clamoring for a record from Ray.
2014 was a big year for Michael Ray, who just wrapped up a stint opening for Chase Rice on his Ignite the Night Tour. As we look ahead to 2015, we suspect big things for Ray, who will join Sam Hunt and Native Run on the road for Hunt’s headlining Lipstick Graffiti Tour.
