On March 26, 2015 the Certified Platinum Tour rolled into town in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Headlining artist, Miranda Lambert, and opening acts, Ashley Monroe and Justin Moore, were set to take the stage.
Knoxville, Tennessee native Ashley Monroe is a fiery little thing with a guitar. She’s pure country music through and through. She’s known for being a member of the country music trio Pistol Annie’s, as well as her recent duet with Blake Shelton titled “Lonely Tonight.” I knew when her band took the stage wearing tuxes that I was in for a treat. She performed her new single “On to Something Good,” as well as one of my favorite’s titled “Weed Instead of Roses.” Monroe had a humble stage presence and exceptional vocals. Her performance was everything country music has been missing and completely enjoyable.
Just a small town boy from Poyen, Arkansas; Justin Moore radiates country music. Moore recently accepted the award for CMA New Artist of the Year, and Entertainer of the Year can’t be too far behind. He hit the stage like a volcano. His energy was massive. Even with a lack of crowd enthusiasm, Moore delivered. He performed songs such as “Point at You” and “Bait a Hook.” He even showed off some dance moves during “Small Town Throw Down.” His performance was effortless. There is something magnificent about watching Justin Moore live. To say his vocals are incredible would be an understatement. He is the real deal. One of the best moments of the night was during “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away,” when the entire arena lit up their cell phones and held them to the sky. It’s moments like those that remind me why I love this job and why I began this journey. Justin Moore is one hell of a entertainer. One of the best artists out there today.
Headlining artist Miranda Lambert took the stage in true bad ass style, wearing cut off jeans, black panty hose, a tank top and boots. Opening up with “Fastest Girl in Town” her star power shined through immediately. Again, the crowd wasn’t too eager, which had some affect on Lambert’s performance. However, even with the lack of crowd participation, she still did exceptionally well. Vocally, she was unbelievable. Flawless. Her stage presence was pleasing, but the obvious annoyance of the dull crowd was noticeable.
All of that aside, Miranda Lambert is one of the best female performers in country music. It’s very obvious that she works hard on every aspect of her live set. The stage set up, the lights, and even the huge video monitor were better than any other tour I’ve seen this year. She performed all her fan favorites such as “Kerosene” and “The House That Built Me.” The highlight for me was when she sang her new single “Little Red Wagon.” She came alive. It was electric.
Lambert’s unique song writing abilities and sassy attitude make her extremely rare. No one can tell a story with that much boldness and validity like she can. Lambert ended her set with an uplifting performance of the Dixie Chicks’ “Cowboy Take Me Away” where she showed her true spirit of girl power and invited back up singer Gwen Sebastian and opening act Ashley Monroe to sing along side her. It was genuine, positive and ideal. One of the best performances I’ve ever witnessed.
If you are on the fence about seeing the Certified Platinum Tour, take my advice, it’s worth every penny spent.
