While Miranda Lambert has already released two hit singles off of her Platinum album, “Automatic” and the Carrie Underwood-duet “Something Bad,” there was much speculation as to what would be the third. While promoting the album at CMA Fest and Fashion Rocks, Lambert performed “Little Red Wagon,” making it the clear front-runner for single #3 with its sassy attitude and its patented Lambert pizzazz. However, the plot seemed to twist at November’s CMA Awards when Miranda took to the stage to perform “Smokin’ and Drinkin’,” a slow-burning mid-tempo that pairs her with Little Big Town.
Although one could argue that “Smokin’ and Drinkin'” is a better song, the performance received a tepid response, failing to generate much buzz at iTunes or around water coolers. It seems that the third single has switched (back?) again, with “Smokin’ and Drinkin'” fizzling in place of “Little Red Wagon.” While I’m bummed due to my preference for “Smokin’,” it seems that “Wagon” is certainly the more radio-friendly of the two and I expect to hear it rolling up the charts in the very near future.
The track was written by Audra Mae and Joe Ginsberg, and should head to radio soon. The artwork for “Little Red Wagon” was released to JustJared.com today, showing her sassy side in a red plaid ensemble as she pulls, appropriately, a “little red wagon.”
