Nashville and Hollywood Collide

Every so often throughout the past few decades a movie would grace the big screen with a familiar theme. The main story lines changed but there were certainly a few things the same…a dive bar, a main street road in small town USA, a gripping love story and a country singer. That country music singer would often be played by a Hollywood actor with the musical renderings by one of Nashville’s own. The tides have changed over the years and the worlds have collided some. Take a look:

Nashville Goes to Hollywood

George Strait starred in Pure Country as a singer who’s tired of the glitz and glamor of the big stage. He decides to abandon stardom for life on the farm?

Toby Keith plays a fading country music star who returns to his hometown, where he reunites with his childhood sweetheart and also meets his 16-year-old daughter for the first time in Broken Bridges.

Tim McGraw starred in 2 motion pictures, Friday Night Lights and Flicka.

Reba – 2001 brought us a funny sitcom called…..Reba

LeAnn Rimes picked up a starring role, and a new real life husband, in the 2009 film Northern Lights.

Hollywood Comes to Nashville

Gwyneth Paltrow starred in the anticipated film staged in Nashville,  Country Strong. She not only sang for the movie, soundtrack, and live from the CMA stage, but  “Coming Home” was nominated for Best Song at the Academy Awards.

Kevin Costner surprised everyone when he announced that he was returning to his musical roots…namely because we didn’t realize they existed. Since then Kevin Costner and the Modern West has produced 2 studio albums and he is currently on tour with the band.

Lucy Hale just became a “pretty little singer” debuting her first song and video last week. “You Sound Good to Me” is still sitting in the top 20 on the iTunes charts.

Jeff Bridges played a broke down country singer in the movie Crazy Heart. When he released his album, Jeff Bridges, most critics expected the same. Wrong….this boy can sing!

Can you think of other Hollywood/Nashville collisions?
