Nashville music advocate, host and producer of The Billy Block Show always had a consistent vision…building community with music. For the past 17 years no one has done it quite like him. Billy Block gave a stage for aspiring musicians who came to Nashville with a guitar and a dream. He would flash them that warm smile and welcome them in. He often supported the underdog and eventually record executives listened. Many artists started with Billy long before they played arenas and festivals. Artists such as Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Keith Urban, Florida Georgia Line. He gave them a chance, and left us all with an unmeasurable gift.
For the first time, Billy Block needs us. A couple of days ago his wife announced that they went to the doctor for an apparent bronchitis and came home with a stage 4 metastatic melanoma diagnosis. The cancer had spread to his lymph nodes, spleen and liver and he is immediately beginning aggressive treatment in Nashville and plan to travel to TX if that doesn’t work. His disability was denied so the family has set up a a fund at Wells Fargo to help with expenses.
Billy seems hopeful in the midst of the diagnosis...“It is my only and focused resolution this year to show my family, friends and especially my kids how undeniable faith, powerful will and heroic courage can create victory over cancer,” he wrote. “Safely cradled in the arms of Angels I am confident we will win!”
There has already been an outpouring of love and support from artists and industry professionals. No doubt the love Billy gave will flow back now when he needs it most.
Those wanting to make donations to the Billy Block Fund can make donations as a gift at any Wells Fargo branch office or mail checks (payable to Wells Fargo; attention Bradley Gallimore or Danielle Lares-Bouharoun) to Wells Fargo Private Bank, 3100 West End Ave., One American Center, Suite 550, Nashville, TN 37203.
