Runaway June Left Their (Lipstick) Mark in Chicago

On February 27, 2017, suburban Chicago’s popular country bar, Skooter’s Roadhouse, hosted US*99 Miller Lite New Country on Tap, featuring Broken Bow recording artists Runaway June. The rootsy trio consists of lead singer/guitarist Naomi Cooke, singer/mandolin picker Hannah Mulholland, and singer/guitarist Jennifer Wayne, who are becoming an unstoppable force as they break through onto country music radio.

Not only were they adorable, but immediately upon taking the stage, Runaway June’s contagious energy had the room delightfully dancing along. They introduced the first song that they ever wrote as a trio, aptly titled, “Forget Her,” which is a compelling love ballad about persuading the man of interest to move on from his past relationship. Check out the exclusive clip below.

A fun fact about Runaway June is that one of the members is the granddaughter of John Wayne. Can you guess which one? (HINT: she’s a blonde bombshell who happens to be a hit songwriter, responsible for co-writing Eric Paslay’s “She Don’t Love You.”) Inspired, the trio wrote a song in honor of the acting legend, and you can catch a clip below!

The shift in sounds on contemporary country radio is leaning more towards “popular” music, but Runaway June is challenging that with their three-part harmonies and organic, desert infused vibes. Their efforts have proved to be successful, as their current single, “Lipstick” is sitting at No. 25 on the country radio charts, and it has the hit potential to keep climbing. Take a listen, and if you like it, make sure to keep requesting it at your local country station.

In the nearly 60-minute set showcasing their spunky talent, the ladies of Runaway June left their (Lipstick) mark on Chicago, and it’s a shade that won’t quickly be fading away. A special thank you to Skooters Roadhouse, US*99, and Miller Lite for teaming up to bring this free show to the public. Big things are ahead for this trio, and #CMchat will be rooting for Runaway June along the way!
