Single Review: Runaway June – Lipstick

Wheelhouse Records trio Runaway June recently released their fresh single “Lipstick.” Members Hannah Mulholland, Naomi Cooke and Jennifer Wayne blend together to create a powerful band. We haven’t seen a group this fierce since The Dixie Chicks. Produced by Mickey Jack Cones, “Lipstick” will most certainly be your new favorite music accessory.

“Lipstick” is an up-tempo ode to females everywhere. It’s a sassy track with punctual guitar riffs and some mandolin strumming. The song has mainstream potential but keeps its country flavor. The track also displays the trio’s pristine harmonies and musicianship.

Runaway June showcases their lyrical talent in the song with a positive message. With descriptive lyrics such as, “If you’re gonna love somebody, yeah you better love somebody who would keep those pretty blue eyes as dry as the Sahara. If you’re gonna love somebody, yeah you better love somebody who ruins your lipstick, not your mascara.”

The song indeed gives a positive message to the female generation with a story of self-worth and self-pride. The track is extremely engaging.

“Lipstick” had 35 first week adds to country radio and continues to gain interest. If the track is any indication on what to expect from the Runaway June’s forthcoming debut album, then I can’t wait to hear more.
