Anyone who listens to country music knows that a good party is vital for most occasions. Whether it’s a collegiate inspired pre-party, a Lee Brice infused “parking lot party,” or the celebratory after party, the quality of your party can cement your social status — in one way or another.
Lucky for country music newcomer Sandra Lynn, she is throwing quite the “Afterparty” these days on Sirius XM The Highway, and it seems as though her popularity is soaring, based on the event to which she has tied her name. Recent Highway Find and true contender in the Hot 45 countdown, Sandra Lynn is raising eyebrows, turning heads, and delighting ears with her current single, “Afterparty.” However, this blossoming artist wasn’t always in Nashville and on point to reach superstardom in the foreseeable future.
Sandra Lynn grew up in California, but soon found that her body and soul could be in two different places. It was when she heard Deana Carter’s “Strawberry Wine” and realized how much she could relate to the lyrics that she found her heart intwined in country music so much that building a career in Music City became her dream. Also dabbling in pop music, Lynn found herself inspired by a multi-genre myriad of talented and enamoring women, including Jewel, Michelle Branch, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, and the Dixie Chicks.
When Lynn was studying at California’s Pepperdine University, she received a Patsy Cline album as a gift and it was then that she started to identify more with the classic country sounds, finding a desire to channel her love for writing more toward lyrics. Lynn spent about two years songwriting in Los Angeles, ultimately capturing the attention of producer David Foster who connected the aspiring recording artist with writers in Nashville.
Fast forward to 2014 and Lynn wasn’t spending half her life in Nashville dreaming away the hours and longing for a career in music; she was living the dream. One thing that is pointedly clear about Lynn is that when she lives her dreams, she lives them large, as her self-titled debut EP was produced by Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus. She also has found her home on stage, opening for country icons named Kenny — both Chesney and Rogers, to be exact.
Perhaps the song that put Lynn on most Nashvillians’ radars was “You Belong,” written by Lori McKenna, Travis Meadows and Jeremy Spillman. “You Belong” has recorded over 100,000 views on YouTube to date, and resulted in Lynn’s debut on CMT.com, CMT’s Pure channel, Great American Country, and Zuus Country TV.
Catching wind of Lynn’s potential and seeing same for himself, Ross Copperman (Dierks Bentley, Brett Eldredge) signed on to assist her with her next project, which includes current single “Afterparty.” The catchy single that is constantly gaining ground on The Highway was written by Copperman, Nicole Gallyon, and Jana Kramer.
Sandra described “Afterparty” on her official website:
“Afterparty” is about that person who is your best friend and the one you want to spend time with at the end of the day, every day, for the rest of your life. It feels like the next step for me as an artist — vocally, musically, lyrically, and story-wise. My hope is that it’ll strike a chord in fans and make them feel like they want to bust some dance moves!
And strike a chord it has. Sandra Lynn is a name you can often hear on Sirius XM The Highway, seldom taking a drive in your car without getting a little taste of what it’s like to attend her kind of an after party. Ending 2014 on the high note of becoming one of the more recurring voices on the beloved satellite station, it looks like 2015 is shaping up to be the year that Lynn will throw many an after party in celebration of her successes.
