What if potential beaus came with warning signs? Most hearts would beat with joy for the sadness adverted. “Marquee Sign,” Sara Evans latest single, ponders that very thought.
Co-written with Jimmy Robbins and Heather Morgan, the Missouri native’s signature vocals soar with the heartbreaking lyrics.
“If you would’ve been lit up like a marquee sign,
I could’ve saved myself some wasted time.”
Adding haunting background vocals is the singer’s 14-year-old daughter Olivia.
“Having my daughter Olivia sing on the song was such a special moment for me, not only as a mom, but also as a fan. I was so impressed when she went in the vocal booth and started singing these really cool parts and ad-libs at the end of the song!”
The song is the lead off single from Evans’ album, Words, due out July 21 on her own label, Born To Fly Records (distributed by Sony RED). The label name comes from one of Evans’ own hit songs.
“When I’m listening to a song, it’s the lyrics and the stories they tell that matter most to me. Not only is ‘Words‘ the title to one of the songs on my album, but in listening to new music for the record, I was always looking for lyrics that moved me and expressed a powerful range of emotions. Women are natural storytellers and I’m proud to have so many amazing female songwriters represented on this record.”
Those female songwriters include Ashley Monroe, Hillary Scott, Hillary Lindsey, and Sonya Isaacs on the upcoming release co-produced by Sara Evans and Mark Bright.
Words will have 13 new tracks plus an acoustic version of her recent hit “A Little Bit Stronger.”
The Missouri native has sold more than five million albums to date and charted five number 1’s including “No Place That Far,” “Suds In The Bucket, ” and “A Real Fine Place To Start.” She has won the Academy of Country Music Top Female Vocalist award.
The forty-six-year-old artist began singing at age five with her family’s band. This summer her three children will be joining her on tour. Things really do come full circle! Check out her schedule for her upcoming tour.
Evans has teamed with ONEHOPE Wine to launch a Signature Series Cabernet Sauvignon to benefit the Country Music Association (CMA) Foundation. The Foundation helps support music education programs across the United States.
