Sara Evans released Slow Me Down earlier this year; an album which peaked at Number 2 on the US Billboard Top Country Albums chart. So far, the album has garnered one single — its title track, which broke into the Top 20 on the Billboard charts.
Now, after much anticipation, Sara is releasing her sophomore single off her seventh studio record, “Put My Heart Down.” The track is up-tempo, yet, upon listening to the lyrics, far from upbeat. The song, which could likely be classified as art imitating life, discusses heartbreak and having to cut the ties that bind a couple together, no matter how much the distancing will be devastating. Perhaps the most brilliant, yet heart wrenching lyric, one that demonstrates a painful epiphany, is “I’ll have to live without what I can’t live without.”
In order to best cope with the life-changing ending of a relationship, Sara begs:
Put my heart down, put my heart down, put my heart down, put my heart down and walk away just like it was a loaded gun. Put my heart down, put my heart down, put my heart down, put my heart down and walk away, this kind of love is dangerous.
The end of one chapter is never easy, but Sara’s song explains that the faster the page can be turned, the easier it is to start the process of diving head first into what is coming next. “Put My Heart Down” is a relatable track for anybody who has ever been in a toxic relationship and finally realized he/she could no longer continue the struggle.
The song will be added to radio on September 29th, so get an early listen of the track below and let us know what you think of Sara Evans’ “Put My Heart Down.”
