[email protected] Sentimentally Rings in the Holidays with an Album

Sara Evans had to get a little bit stronger when she headed into the recording studio to lay down the tracks for her upcoming holiday album. At Christmas, set for a November 17th release, was a project that brought Evans to tears several times during its recording, once she realized the significance of the album to her family.

Sara Evans At Christmas

In discussing the album with Rolling Stone, Evans explained:

The first song I sang was “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and I kept getting choked up. I’m always trying to think of something to give me inspiration or put me in a certain mindset. And I kept thinking, a Christmas album is very special because it’s timeless. So then I started thinking about when my kids are older and I’m dead, and they’re drunk celebrating Christmas… [laughs] listening to these songs, they’re going to be so sad. I’m just kidding, they won’t be drunk. But they’ll cry! So I want this album to be special.

Evans recalled also wiping away the tears when she recorded Christmas classics, “Silent Night” and “O’ Holy Night,” songs that she declared have always moved her. Further on the subject of tears, Evans shared that fans will be tearing up when they hear “The 12 Days of Christmas,” simply due to the preciousness of those who collaborated with her on the track. “My girls [Olivia, 12, and Audrey, 10] sing it with me. It is precious; it’ll make you cry. They have great voices.”

The album, produced by Mark Bright, will contain one original track, the title track, which was written by Shane Stevens and Toby Lightman.

***You can watch Evans on ABC’s Nashville tonight (October 29th), as she performs her new single “Put My Heart Down.” Evans will also be on CMA’s Country Christmas special this fall.***
