While Brandy Clark preps for a GRAMMY performance with Dwight Yoakam and Shane McAnally scores #1 country hit after hit, the pair has been busy developing a musical. Their musical comedy, entitled Moonshine: The Hee Haw Musical is loosely inspired by the TV series Hee Haw, and will premiere on September 2, 2015. The show will run at Dallas Theater Center from September 2 through October 11.
The show tells the story of Misty Mae, who leaves the hayfields of Kornfield Kounty for the bright lights of Tampa, Florida. She returns to her hometown with her new beau and hilarity ensues as she introduces him to her friends and family. “We both grew up watching ‘Hee Haw,’ so it’s thrilling that we get to make our musical theater writing debut using source material that really shaped and defined so much in terms of the history of country music,” said Clark and McAnally in a statement. “We’re loving the collaborative process of writing for the theater too, and can’t wait to get the show in front of audiences!”
In addition to Clark and McAnally, the production has an all star development team including Gary Griffin (“Honeymoon in Vegas,” “The Color Purple”), Robert Horn, Denis Jones and Stephen Oremus. It will be produced by Opry Entertainment and Fox Theatricals along with the Dallas Theater Center.
More details and ticket info can be found at www.dallastheatercenter.org or by phone at the AT&T Performing Arts Center Box Office at (214) 880-0202. The show hopes to move to New York City and Broadway in 2016.
