Brandy Clark’s “Girl Next Door,” is the anthem for all of us who are anything but that. Her newest single, off her upcoming Warner Records album Big Day in a Small Town, expected out this spring, is a strong follow-up to her Grammy-nominated debut album 12 Stories. Still every bit of the feisty country girl that won us over on the first album, but with a vibe that should convince country radio stations to spin it.
Out of the speakers; swaying hips and swinging shoulders lead in to Clark’s full, rich vocals. The lyrics may be a bit repetitive, in this case, I see that as a positive. It’s hard to listen to this song, and not come away singing it. With playful lines, such as “If you want the girl next door, then go next door,” and another favorite of mine, “My heart, and my head, and my bed can get real twisted,” this song is poised to strike a chord with the wild women of the country world.
