The term “bro-country” has found itself a home in country music for quite some time now, but it looks like SiriusXM’s The Highway is attempting to put the kibosh on its prominence … at least to the best of its ability.
Beginning tomorrow, Monday, August 11th, The Highway is introducing “Fresh Female Voices,” a platform that will feature new females in the country music genre, three times an hour, every day of the week. On the attempt to showcase more female talent, SiriusXM’s Senior Director of Music Programming, John Marks, stated “we’re pulling in a wide swath of female talent to gather up what the listeners will respond to. For me, it’s turning into a quest to find the one that finally rings the bell for the country consumer.”
The females you can expect to hear featured as “Fresh Female Voices” include, but are not limited to, Leah Turner, Kelleigh Bannen, Brandy Clark, Sunny Sweeney, and Risa Binder. Marks also intends to tap into his instincts a bit, pulling from other genres who he believes are fitting for The Highway’s format.
According to Brian Mansfield (#CMchattys winner for #MustFollowWriter) of USA Today:
[t]he Fresh Female Voices programming will add approximately 200 spins for women beyond what singers like Lambert and Carrie Underwood might usually get. Marks will monitor sales data, social-media activity and music-streaming statistics for signs of potential breakout records.
Tune into The Highway on Channel 56 on SiriusXM, beginning tomorrow, to see if your favorite newly signed or independent female acts will begin to receive the recognition that has long awaited them.
