Tennessee native Smo (formerly known as Big Smo) is known for dominating not only the country charts but rap charts as well. The hip hop redneck is known for being a family man as seen on his reality TV show titled Big Smo via A&E. His music has grit, authenticity and charisma. His recent album We The People was released on July 22nd. The album features artists such as Corey Crowder and William Michael Morgan. Smo’s music speaks to rural blue collar folks, but still has the rawness to be respected among the hip hop community as well. A diverse artist with a big heart, Smo is on the rise.

Sitting on the back porch of my farm with my dog Jade. I’m wearing camo cargo shorts and crocs.
What’s your official title and favorite thing about what you do?
Professional human being, my favorite thing is achieving the goals that I’ve set.
What are the three things you CANNOT live without?
Family, music and faith.
What’s the first concert you’ve ever attended?
Firehouse, Warrant and Trixster.
You just made a video for “We The People,” who came up with the concept and how was the process?
The director Joel Robertson and I came up with the concept, the process went very smoothly.
What’s the hardest life lesson you’ve learned?
Valuing our time, “better three hours too soon than a minute too late.”
Do you have a favorite restaurant or hang out spot in Music City?
The Tavern and I love my kinfolk at the Palm.
Who is your favorite country singer from the 90s?
Out of all the songs you’ve written, do you have a favorite?
I don’t have a single favorite song but “We The People,” the single off my new album is one of my favorites.
Do you have a favorite place to perform?
Nashville, TN. Hometown shows are the best.
What’s one gift you will never forget?
Being a father, the gift of my children.
What current event has your eyes and ears? What are you doing about it?
Autism always has my attention; I do everything I can for Autism charity functions.
How do you think songwriters play a vital role in music today?
Songwriters are vital to the creation of all music.
Is there anyone you haven’t worked with yet but would like to?
Jimmy Fallon would be one. I love comedy and doing a parody with Jimmy would be awesome.
You’re making your favorite sandwich…what’s on it?
Low sodium Boars Head Turkey, fresh avocado, spring mix, red onion, cracked pepper, yogurt mayo, Sriracha, aioli on honey wheat, whole grain, toasted bread.
Name one artist of any genre besides country that you are a fan of and tell us why?
Kanye West. He’s a musical genius.
What makes you laugh out loud?
My kids make me laugh out loud constantly.
