2013 was the year of bro-country. While the songs sold, and sold big, multitudes of fans were longing for something more traditional. That seemed to be missing this year. Instead the songs were about heavily about beer, trucks, and partying. Good solid storytelling and songs that aren’t so overproduced used to be the root of country music and we have strayed far from where the music originated.
Enter Ronnie Dunn, who in the final 2 weeks of the year, brings us something authentic with his new song, “Grown Damn Man.” It sounds like, well, Ronnie Dunn. This latest song from Dunn sings like a biography told with the deep clarity of that famous voice.
I’m a grown damn man, rough around the edges that’s what I am. Every line on my face, has had to fight to earn it’s place. This heart beatin in my chest, get a little reckless at times I guess. These tired baby blues still light up when they see you.
The simple lyrics paint a picture of a man living boldly and with integrity. Sounds kind of familiar. Hats off to you Ronnie Dunn for bringing us back.
