It only takes a moment of watching singer-songwriter Meghan Linsey to realize that this talented little ball of fire is a force to be reckoned with. She has the classic beauty of Old Hollywood with a soulful voice to match it. Which makes sense when you look at where she comes from.
Meghan was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, a melting pot of music, tradition and culture. Along with growing up in that diverse environment, Meghan listened to and learned her craft from the greats like Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, Etta James and more. After starting to perform with her own band at the age of 14, Linsey, at the age of 15 found herself opening for acts like Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley and more. Seeing such talented artists perform, Linsey knew what she needed to do next…become an opening act.
For any aspiring country artist the natural choice for making it into country music involves heading to Music City, which is exactly what she did. Meghan made many trips to Nashville, experiencing the heart of the music, which was the songwriters that came in and out of the legendary Bluebird Cafe. After many trips back and forth from Louisiana to Tennessee, she eventually made the move and headed to Belmont University in Nashville.
Many people may recognize Meghan as one half of the duo Steel Magnolia, who won the 2nd season of CMT’s “Can You Duet”. Meghan met Joshua Scott Jones when she was working a karaoke bar in Nashville while trying to support her career. Their professional and personal pairing made them a very infatuating couple to watch. Their soulful voices caused the duo to gain quite the following, which caused them to gain attention in the business. Prior to winning “Can You Duet”, Meghan and Josh grew a following not only in Nashville but in Europe as well.
Steel Magnolia released their debut self titled album on Big Machine Records in January 2010. It peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Country charts and was well received by critics. From 2010 to 2012, Steel Magnolia were writing, recording, touring and making numerous television appearances. They were also nominated for many awards and received a lot of attention from fans as well as colleagues. As most artists know, life on the road can be stressful and complicated. Even though the couple split personally in 2012 and the duo took a break, Meghan finished out their tour. They continue to work together as a duo and on their own solo projects now.
In the time since then, Meghan was been working hard on her career, bringing it all back to why she does this, the music. She has had the honor of working with some of the best songwriters in the business and brings her uniquely beautiful voice and talent to the songs she performs. To hear Meghan sing is to be given the privilege of hearing what’s in her heart and soul. It’s deep, raw and an absolute treat for your ears.
If what she has accomplished so far is a sign of what’s to come for this rising star, the future is going to be incredibly bright! She has a style all her own, the drive to conquer any obstacles and a talent that is hard to come by.
