#BreakingTheIce with Taylor Ray Holbrook

Taylor Ray Holbrook has had some pretty amazing opportunities lately. After making it to the Hollywood Week of last season’s American Idol, he is now living in Nashville where he hopes to make music a full time career. Holbrook has a huge presence on social media and a rather large following of 39,000 on Twitter. He has also gained notoriety with his Vine videos. Holbrook is from a small town in Virginia, where most of the men in his life were coal miners. However, he decided to follow a different path and earned two college degrees. You see, Holbrook is the underdog, but there is a place for him in country music. Taylor Ray Holbrook is passionate, exceptionally talented at his craft, and has a personality that radiates light.

1. Where are you answering these questions from and what are you wearing?
I’m answering these questions from the kitchen in my ┬ánew place in Nashville Tennessee!
2. What is your official title and favorite thing about what you do?
My official title would be “Taylor Ray Holbrook” I guess… (laughs) and my favorite thing about what I do, is the feeling I get knowing that I’ve made someones day a little better, may it be from my goofy video, an inspirational post, or a new song I release.
3. Name three things you CANNOT live without?
My family, my friends and being out in nature!
4. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
Here in Nashville, I treat music with the same dedication as I would logging, or working at the prison. I wake up early in the morning, usually around 8 AM (which beats the heck outta’ 4:30am) and I walk outside to get some fresh air, then I start my day. May it be going to a writing session, practicing old songs, working on future projects, or responding to fan mail.
5. What’s your favorite cartoon character?
My favorite cartoon character would have to be Dexter, From Dexter’s Laboratory. I don’t watch much TV anymore. Too much negativity coming from it.
6. What’s your favorite holiday and why?
My favorite holiday would have to be Christmas or Thanksgiving. I just like getting the family together and enjoying each others company over some grub!
7. Sweet or sour?
Sweet, not a big fan of sour.
8. Beer or whiskey?
9. What’s your favorite breakfast food?
Cheesy Eggs!
10. What’s your favorite Disney movie?
No idea! (laughs)
11. What’s your favorite candy bar?
Zero Bar
12. What’s one gift you will never forget?
My nana gave me my first car that I actually owned after I totaled my momma’s car into a guard rail by hydroplaning. Rode that Maxima out to 233,000 miles before retiring her recently!
13. What current event has your eyes and ears?
My most current event was Chris Young at an event in Kentucky called “Crocketsville” That place was a blast!
14. How many pairs of shoes do you own?
I think I own two pairs of shoes. More of a boot guy.
15. What do you believe makes a successful life?
Being able to wake up everyday with a smile on your face. Being content and happy with the decisions you’ve made and where you stand in life.
16. What’s one thing you hate but wished you loved?
I really despise anything spicy. I feel like you should be able to enjoy a meal. Not have to sweat and drink excessive amounts of water. Mild is about as far as I can go!
17. You’re making your favorite sandwich, what’s on it?
My favorite sandwich would be a homemade Subway styled ham and cheese sandwich! With bacon!
18. Name one artist of any genre that you would love to co-write with and why?
I would love to co-write with Chris Stapleton. There’s no denying his skills and ability to write. But his vocals are what intrigues me the most!
19. Fill in the blank: I write songs because…
…I have lived the average life of a small town guy, full of happiness, heartache, etc. Now that I have the ability to reach people who enjoy listening to music they can relate to, I write songs to trigger their emotions, give them hope, and an outlet for when times get tough.
20. Fill in the blank: It’s not a party until…
…someone gets naked (laughs.)
