Worldwide touring artist Taylor Swift has made a point to say that no matter where life takes her Nashville will always be home. She has said its the coziest, most normal place to live. She can live anywhere but chooses Music City for its friendly people and the ability to go do normal things without the paparazzi documenting her every step. Although she has many worthwhile causes, she makes a point to recognize Nashville in a big way.
During the flood of 2010 Taylor donated $500,000 to help in the relief efforts. Her generous donation went directly to clean up and to the families impacted by the storm.
Just this past October she gave $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame. They opened the Taylor Swift Education Center which includes classrooms, hands on instrument room and an interactive children’s exhibit. She says they are talking about various programs she can be directly involved in as well.
The latest local recipient of Taylor’s generosity was the Nashville Symphony. Swift announced on her birthday last week that she was giving them $100,000. The symphony had faced some recent financial issues and focused their efforts on fundraising. Their largest donation came from Music City’s most notable resident.
Its refreshing to see a young artist with the right focus. It reminds me of the old saying by Winston Churchill, “You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give“.The impact she is making by freely giving extends far beyond her Nashville home.
