Iconic country artist Glen Campbell has experienced indescribable and countless successes during his career, most recently capping off his resume with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammys. Unfortunately, Campbell has fallen quite ill with Alzheimer’s and is currently under the care of an inpatient facility as his condition worsens.
To commemorate the colorful musical pilgrimage of Campbell, country trio, The Band Perry, has released a cover of his hit song “Gentle on My Mind.” Campbell’s track was released in 1967, hit Number 1, and was later certified platinum by the recording industry. The siblings Perry had previously performed the smash hit on the Grammy Awards at the time Campbell was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award and, now, the Perrys have recorded an acoustic version to be included on the soundtrack for the upcoming documentary, Glen Campbell….I’ll Be Me, based on his legendary life.
The acoustic cover is a beautiful tribute to Campbell, complete with a classic string-picking introduction leading into the uniquely identifiable vocals of Kimberly Perry. With minimal instrumentation, the familial vocals of the brothers and sister blend together seamlessly, yet simply, paying homage to an artist with a most decorated career.
Glen Campbell….I’ll Be Me will be released to theaters on a limited basis on October 24th. Our thoughts and prayers are with Campbell and his loved ones at this most difficult time.
