When Thomas Rhett announced his album tracklist, most people pinned “Marry Me” as the next “Die A Happy Man.” Once Life Changes hit shelves and streaming services, fans soon realized that this song was far from a love song.
It’s one of my favorite songs on the album and this song breaks your heart everytime you hear it. A crushing ballad about being the other man in someone else’s love story.
“I remember the night when I almost kissed her
Yeah, I kinda freaked out, we’d been friends for forever
And I always wondered if she felt the same way
When I got the invite, I knew it was too late”
He had (close) to this experience with his wife, Lauren. Thomas knew that if he hadn’t made a move when he did, this song could potentially be his life. He used his own experiences to develop the song and we’re thankful he made the move because we might not have the Thomas Rhett we know today.
“I’ll wear my black suit, black tie, hide out in the back
I’ll do a strong shot of whiskey straight out the flask
I’ll try to make it through without crying so nobody sees
Yeah, she wanna get married
But she don’t wanna marry me”
This song is sure to hit home. People often miss big opportunities and don’t realize it until later. Thomas Rhett’s advice to you- take the leap or you’ll regret it later.
