Home for the Holidays….a Military Tribute

The saying goes that “all hearts come home for Christmas.” This statement is unfortunately not true with many of our military personnel.  They have a duty to serve our country no matter what time of year and they do so with honor. Their absence impacts the family and children back home the most.

Its vitally important for all of us to remember military families during the season. John F Kennedy once said,

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them.”

These are powerful words and speak so well to the debt we owe our soldiers. We have evolved…for the most part. We moved from a country that shunned our veterans to one that now honors them. We see random acts of kindness bestowed on Veterans and their families, tributes at NFL games, better (although not perfect) benefits. The country music industry has paved the way in honoring our troops. The CMA Entertainer of the Year, George Straight, recently raised nearly $500000 to offer aid to members wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq. Toby Keith has traveled overseas for 11 USO/Armed forces tours….11! Many more have donated time and money to these soldiers inspiring people around the world to do the same.

To our soldiers…the gift you give us of freedom, safety and pride for our country is not in vain. Although we can never repay this debt, we are so grateful.  “Thank you” will never be enough.

I love this video tribute of Michael Buble and Blake Shelton singing Holiday Military tribute of the song  Home. And below that video of an Air Force Master Sergeant who recently returned home from a deployment to Afghanistan surprised his son on the football field during a high school game.
