There is something special to be said about country music as a whole. It is honest, it is relatable, and it is the kind of storytelling you wish you could find a way to relay. Those of us who love the genre see all of its unique and distinguished qualities and often think there is no way to love it anymore than we do today. Well, those who have not experienced Tortuga Music Festival think that, anyway!
As a South Florida native and someone who has been to Tortuga, there is an indescribable feeling associated with the unification of some amazing country music, all the while sinking your feet into the Florida sands of Fort Lauderdale beach. Beer in hand, bathing suit tied around your neck, a megastar mere feet away from you, and, just a few football fields away there is another stage — the stage the next superstar will hop on just moments after this performance is over. Ah yes, there is nothing quite like Tortuga Music Festival.
This year the lineup is out of this world, advertising names like Jake Owen; The Band Perry; Trace Adkins; Sublime with Rome; Josh Turner; David Nail; The Mavericks; Chase Rice; Frankie Ballard; Will Hoge; Chase Bryant; The Dirty Guv’nahs; The Cadillac Three; Old Dominion; Nikki Lane; Dylan Scott; Drake White and the Big Fire; and Judah & the Lion.
But that’s not all. There are seven more HUGE stars bringing their talents to Fort Lauderdale on April 11th and 12th, but I have reserved those seven for Country Music #CMchat’s 7 Quick Clicks, explaining why Tortuga Music Festival isn’t just another day in paradise. It is oh-so-much more!
1. Kenny Chesney
One of the two headliners of the two-day festival, Chesney has twenty-six Number 1 hits and a catalog that is best performed on the beaches. Could there be a better artist to wrap-up a day filled with sun, surf, sand, and celebration? I think not.
2. Zac Brown Band
While there could be no better artist to cap off a day of country music on the beach, there is certainly a comparable one — and that is Zac Brown. The ZBB isn’t just going to put their toes in the water and their you-know-whats in the sand on April 11-12th. They are going to grace the main stage at Tortuga and bring their islandish vibe to Broward County.
3. Little Big Town
Some Tortuga Festival goers will literally float by and splash around in the Atlantic Ocean during the big event. The Little Big Town foursome can get on board for doing a little “mmmmmotorboating” themselves during their stay in South Florida, and there is no doubt they will sing their beach-appropriate hit song “Pontoon” during that time.
4. Colt Ford
Tortuga Music Festival is a way for attendees to truly experience the “high life.” Colt Ford will be there to bring a little hick and a little hop to the beautiful Fort Lauderdale beaches. And, duet partner Chase Rice will also be there — maybe we will get a collaboration from these two country music heavy hitters?
5. Sam Hunt
If anyone can make me want to “leave the night on,” it’s Sam Hunt; and all of South Florida will feel the same way when he takes the stage after onlookers have had countless beers and have spent hours in the blazing sun. No matter how late Hunt hits the stage, the fact is it’ll still be early out in Cali and if anyone can rally, it’s those who have committed to two fun-filled and sun-filled Tortuga days!
6. Maddie & Tae
The lineup simply wouldn’t have been complete this year without throwing in a couple of girls in a country song. Bringing the sass to the sandy strip, they will undoubtedly croon of cliche girls in cutoff shorts and bikini tops. Perhaps Maddie & Tae will have no choice but to don the very outfits they sarcastically sing about? Head to Tortuga to find out!
7. Brooke Eden
There cannot be a Country Music #CMchat 7 Quick Clicks about Tortuga Music Festival that does not feature this hometown girl. Brooke has been “American dreamin'” since she made the move from South Florida to Nashville, Tennessee, and now the dreams of Tortuga ticketholders are coming true when this beachside born beauty returns home for the biggest country music party of the year.
