Trisha Yearwood…latest singer to cancel SeaWorld concert

Trisha Yearwood is the latest celebrity guest performer to pull out of Bands, Brew and BBQ, hosted by SeaWorld every February. Though Yearwood states she has not seen the film, the controversy was enough to make the decision to cancel. She joins country star Willie Nelson, Barenaked Ladies, Joan Jett, and Heart. The cancelations have to do with the controversial documentary Blackfish which graphically depicts the conditions of a whale living in captivity.

Blackfish is a story that came to life after the death of SeaWorld trainer, Dawn Brancheau, in 2010. The film highlights how the whale may have heightened aggression due to harsh treatment in captivity, how the animals are captured and the conditions they are forced to live in. SeaWorld fully denies these allegations saying they are inaccurate and misleading.

Nick Gollattscheck, a rep for SeaWorld gave the following statement, “While were disappointed a small group of misinformed individuals was able to deny fans what would have been great concerts at SeaWorld, we respect the bands decisions”

What do you think about this? Has anyone seen the movie “Blackfish”?
