Chances are, on any day, at any given time, when you turn on the radio you’ll hear one of these songs or one of the many other songs written by hit songwriters Brett James, Hillary Lindsey, Gordie Sampson or Troy Verges. These four incredibly talented Nashville songwriters are some of the best in the business and are part of the ensemble that makes up Music City Hit-Makers.
Music City Hit-Makers was created in 2010 by Charles Dixon. Charles is a world-class violinist who has played with several symphony orchestras and also happens to be the first cousin of Brett James. After seeing the songwriters rounds in Nashville he came up with the idea of putting together the songwriters like you would see at The Bluebird Cafe, with the backing of a symphony orchestra and a studio band to perform and tell the stories behind the songs. From that idea, Music City Hit-Makers born.
Last summer I found myself attending the Music City Hit-Makers show that teamed MCHM up with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. As someone who spends a lot of time attending concerts I was blown away at how much I enjoyed this show. It’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. There is something so special about seeing the artists that poured their hearts into these award winning songs sing and perform them backed by the beauty and power of a symphony orchestra. Plus, you get the “Storytellers” aspect as well when they tell the stories behind the lyrics. Credit must also be given to Charles Judge who arranges the orchestral scores. He has worked with the best of the best including Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and Rascal Flatts, just to name a few. It truly gives you such a greater appreciation for the music and the people that create it. It is a show not to miss!
Coming up June 13th-15th, Music City Hit-Makers will be performing with The Boston Pops for 3 nights in a row. This special ‘Tribute to the Troops’ set will include the hits Blessed, American Honey, Out Last Night, It’s America and more… Plus a debut of the song “Free” written by the Music City Hit-Makers for the Boston Pops as well as a special performance of “Change Your Mind” from the ABC hit series Nashville!
