Defining Hick hop/Country Rap, I’d say it’s a sub-genre of country music, that just as it sounds, blends Country Music and hip hop style rapping. USA Today recently ran a story explaining the context, “country narratives that add rap’s heavy bass and aggression to storylines about pickup-driving, beer-swillin’, chicken-and-biscuit-eating good ol’ boys.”
My introduction to the genre, without having a name for it can definitely be attributed to Cowboy Troy via Big & Rich. Then after attending the grand opening of a club in Fresno over 8 years ago, I met the Moonshine Bandits and become a big fan and supporters of the genre.
I’ve had the Moonshine Bandits as guest on #CMchat but have REALLY wanted to do a Video Chat with them so you guys could see how special they are and what incredible charm and charisma they have!
Hope you will join us Thursday October 17, 6pPT/9pET.
ABOUT MOONSHINE BANDITS
Average Joes Entertainment and California indie label Suburban Noize Records recently entered into a joint venture to release The Moonshine Bandits’ new album through the Nashville label’s imprint, BackRoad Records. The new project is slated for release in early 2014 and will feature “California Country,” which is set to impact country radio this fall. “Moonshine Bandits’ sound is beginning to resonate up and down the west coast, and they have established themselves firmly as a brand to be reckoned with,” says BackRoad Records/AJE CEO, Shannon Houchins. “We’re excited about engaging the ‘Shiner Nation,’ and about teaming up with a hugely successful indie powerhouse like Surburban Noize.”
Since the release of their genre bending album “Whiskey & Women” on Suburban Noize Records, California based Moonshine Bandits have taken the world of outlaw music by storm. The group’s blue-collar work ethic and unwavering persistence has allowed them to rack over 6 million views on YouTube, while their video for “My Kind Of Country” peaked at the #1 spot on legendary country video channel CMT, beating out major label artists like Toby Keith, Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban. The Moonshine Bandits’ intoxicating musical mixture of hip-hop and country is winning over fans of every genre and allowed them to simultaneously hit Billboard’s Rap chart at No. 44, Current Country chart at No. 65, and No. 54 on Billboard’s Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart.
The Moonshine Bandits have created enough noise on their own to attract the attention of legendary Nashville booking agency Buddy Lee Attractions, the same agency that represents Jason Aldean, Colt Ford, and Josh Gracin, who now handle their bookings. The group’s hard work also paid off when they were picked up by Average Joe’s Management, the management firm that guides the careers of Colt Ford, American Idol’s Bo Bice, Rehab, The Lacs and Bubba Sparxx.
