Country music artist, Ty Herndon, took a hiatus from the music industry after arriving in a low place in his life. Although alcohol and drugs were a struggle for some time, in 2014 we also learned his sexuality was at question. Ty Herndon announced to the world that…well, he was indeed gay. However, he pulled himself from that low place, wrote some exceptional songs and made a fantastic album titled House On Fire which was released on November 11, 2016.
Although some may remember past hits such as “What Mattered Most” and “Living In A Moment,” Ty Herndon stays true to those norms while also bringing some new styles to the drawing board. The fun and flirty tracks such as “That Kind of Night” and “Just Friends” give the album oomph and style, while tracks like “Sweet Sweet Way To Go” and “Stick With What I Know” bring a softer vibe to the album.
Ty Herndon gives us a more emotional and powerful side on this project. The title track “House On Fire” is a candid track that expresses the feelings and brokenness of someone struggling with their sexuality. It’s strong and lucid. House On Fire is a timeless album and given his 20-year career, it’s obvious why. Although he stayed true to his sound, Ty Herndon also reaches outside the box with tracks such as “Go” and “All Night Tonight” which should appeal heavily to mainstream listeners.
House On Fire takes 90s country music inspiration and a touch of today’s mainstream flair to create the perfect album for all country music fans alike. It’s filled with passion, creativity and nearly flawless vocals, it’s also upbeat and memorable.
