The man who took “Redneck Crazy” to a new level (and also to Number 1), Tyler Farr, joined Country Music #CMchat for a Twitterview this week. A true hit-maker, Tyler not only made throwing empty beer cans at shadows the “thing” to do upon catching a cheating significant other in the act, he also made comparing a woman to alcohol a romantic sentiment, releasing “Whiskey in My Water” and taking it to Number 1, as well. With his new single “A Guy Walks Into a Bar,” (watch the video now HERE) off an unnamed album at this time, currently on the prowl for the top spot on the charts, we welcomed Tyler with open arms for his second #CMchat event.
Prior to Tyler answering our questions tonight, we knew that he just signed back on to continue opening for Jason Aldean on the Burnin’ It Down Tour (along with Dee Jay Silver and Cole Swindell). Congratulations to Tyler on continuing to set fire to the stage as he embarks on the 2015 leg of this sell-out show series!
We also knew a particularly interesting tidbit about Tyler that may surprise you … it certainly surprised us! The man with the gorgeously gravelly and gritty vocals didn’t begin his singing career in country music; rather, he started his journey as a classically trained opera singer. When Tyler was younger, his father was a part of George Jones’ band, which is how he became acquainted with, and fell in love with, the country music genre. While Tyler would bring a new taste to opera as we know it, and he would look spectacular in that Phantom of the Opera mask and tuxedo, a gift was given to the world of country music the day he put down his pizzicato for a good ole “geetar.”
With all of that knowledge under our belts, it may be somewhat shocking to say that we still learned quite a bit about one of our favorite male voices in the music industry. First off, on the subject of leaving opera, Tyler joked that he attributes puberty to deviating from his classical roots. We also learned that his favorite single that he has released is his current single, “A Guy Walks Into a Bar;” however, his song “Bet Your Ass” is the one that best describes him. Also in discussing Tyler’s singles, he shared with us that a memorable moment in his career was his Number 1 party for “Whiskey in My Water” because he accomplished his two goals upon moving to Nashville: have the Number 1 song in the country and a Number 1 song as a writer.
Additionally, we learned that Tyler has some secret story about pink boots that stems from a long night. He assures us that Jerrod Niemann could fill us in though! Ohhh Jerrod ………. And you might want to check out the sound advice that George Jones gave to a young Tyler when he was just an impressionable lad.
Our night with Tyler was unforgettable, and we want to make sure those of you who were present can re-live it, while ensuring that those who were a little too late for the party can still have the experience. Below are Jessica Northey’s questions and Tyler Farr’s answers (in tweet form) for your viewing pleasure:
