With an absolute colossal fan base in their home state of Texas, Whiskey Myers and their southern rock brand of country may just well be on their way to something bigger. The group has been around for over 6 years now, released three albums, plays hundreds of shows per year and has opened for heavy hitters like Eric Church and Eli Young Band.
Here’s the reason why this group is on to bigger and better things. As a musical group, no matter the genre, there is usually growth. Music gets better and better. And in country music, the songwriting gets more and more personal, the messages become clearer and the delivery and focus becomes more effective. Sirius XM’s The Highway has been spinning one of their singles lately called “Ballad of a Southern Man” and the station’s listeners are loving it. The thing is this song was released in 2011 by Whiskey Myers. The group released its third album, Early Morning Shakes, in February 2014; an album that does not include “Ballad of a Southern Man”. The song is without a doubt a powerful ballad, but if it’s already 3 years old, just imagine what their new album sounds like. And I can tell you, it’s a good’n.
Sirius XM’s The Highway takes some credit for the rise and successes of artists like Florida Georgia Line and Sam Hunt. With this station playing older material of Whiskey Myers and it catching on while the band is out promoting the new stuff; well, that’s a big dose of Whiskey Myers going on. And in my opinion, that’s a recipe for listener curiosity leading to Whiskey Myers success.
