It was such a beautiful night in Medina, Ohio last night and the Thirsty Cowboy was packed with eager fans waiting for Morgan Myles and William Michael Morgan. The concert started off with Morgan Myles and she didn’t disappoint.
Morgan Myles is best described as a soulful country artist. She brings New Orleans to Nashville. Her band, who she met at church, helps her with the soulful sound. Morgan Myles’ ability to hit notes like Whitney Houston makes her, completely unique.
The highlight of her set was when she covered George Jones “Tennessee Whiskey” which was recently made famous by Chris Stapleton. I promise you, this cover did the song justice and I know both Chris Stapleton and The Possum would be proud. Her band took the song a little slower than usual, so she had to hold out each note just a little longer than usual. She did that impressively and I had goosebumps after each verse. This is a cover no one should miss.
Hitting the stage with a No. 1 under his belt was William Michael Morgan. He got the crowd fired up with some songs from his album Vinyl, including “People Like Me,” “Beer Drinker,” and “Cheap Cologne.” A traditional country star, William Michael Morgan had his fans singing every word. He knows how to start a concert! William reminds me of Keith Whitley and George Strait. It’s like we all took a ride on a time machine because he brings us back to old school country. His eagerness to engage with his fans is heartwarming. Honestly, I’m sure every girl in the room thought he was singing to them…I know I did and I’m not complaining. He could sing to us all night and we’d be mesmerized.
He even brought out a couple of surprises, like his cover of Train’s “Drops of Jupiter.” William Michael Morgan made you believe it was a traditional country song. He owned it and I wish he would put it on his next album. Trust me, this song was country through and through.
My favorite song off of his new album is the title track, “Vinyl.” The lyrics draw you in and soon you’ll be singing right along.
“I wanna let your hair fall girl
Oh you’re beautiful you got it all girl
I’d hang the cover on the wall girl
Just like vinyl”
He then went acoustic and showed the crowd what talent he has. Performing “Check Yes or No” and “Don’t Close Your Eyes” by two of his role models, George Strait and Keith Whitley, William Michael Morgan did them proud. The crowd lost their minds during each song and couldn’t believe how raw is sounded. During the second cover, “Don’t Close Your Eyes” I could feel the pain in his voice and he sang it with such emotion, that I didn’t want it to stop. He could’ve sung it on repeat and the whole crowd would’ve loved it.
Finally, William Michael Morgan got to the best part, singing his No. 1 song that has changed so many lives, “I Met A Girl.” At one point in the song, he let the crowd take it over and you could see the joy in his eyes as the crowd sang every word back to him. This song had such a long and steady climb to the top, that I don’t think he ever thought it would go that high on the charts. Having a debut single go to No. 1 shows that this is just the beginning for him.
Be on the lookout, because we have a new “King” in the making.
